We had a great Sunday School class with the Pathfinders group. Thank you Laura Beth for preparing during the week and bringing a great message. I have really thought about what we discussed in class and the people that I find myself with. We are so glad you were with us for worship during our Bridge Builder time. We hope you will join us again!! Thanks Laura Beth for the great message that you shared with us. Prayer Need

Good Morning! I hope this finds you doing well and having a great day! I have a patient and family that needs urgent prayer. Because of privacy, I can't give names, but the Lord knows who we are praying for. There was an accident that involved a 14 year old girl and her 16 year old brother. They are exchange students from Germany. They were riding a Gator ATV yesterday when the accident occurred-he has suffered severe brain injury. She was thrown out of the vehicle but is doing better now. Their father is coming from Germany but will not be able to get here until Friday. The brother is on life-support and she will be going to see him for the first time this afternoon.

Their mother, also in Germany, has suffered a stroke and is a complete total care patient herself. She is currently not able to function on her own.

Please pray that the sister will do ok with her visit with her brother, that she will be able to understand the severity, that the father will have traveling graces, that we will know the best and most appropriate ways to help the sister understand and cope and that their host family will be able to hold it all together.

The father is refusing to believe how bad his son really is. He is bringing a Dr. from Germany with him to evaluate and explain what is going on. At this point, it looks like if he does survive, he too will be a total care dependent.

We all know that we serve an almighty God who works miracles daily. Please pray that His will be done and will be known to all those involved.

I think it is pretty amazing that he worked it out so that our lessons would be on this very topic the last couple of weeks. God is good!!

Sunday August 23, 2009

Man! What a heart-touching service we had in our Bridge Builder class. Sometimes it is not the lesson that man has planned, but the way the Lord uses His children to speak from the heart that means the most. Thank you Laura Beth for such a great message. Thank you for opening your heart and allowing the Lord to speak through and use you! We never fully understand why things happen the way they do. We just have to trust that the Lord has a plan and that His ways are perfect.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Sylvest Family- please continue to remember Charles, Laura Beth, Jodie's children, and the rest of the Sylvest family as they continue to grieve the death of Jodie. There are/will be ongoing legal issues that will come about that the Sylvest's will have to deal with. Please pray that God will move and will lead in the direction He would have them take. Please pray that the driver, his family and friends will learn from what happened and that God can move in their lives to make a change.

Wilkins Family- grandmother of a friend of Lindsey Sanford committed suicide after a long battle with depression and mental disease. Please remember this family as they try to find a new norm and move through the grieving process. Suicide leaves loved ones with so many unanswered questions.

Lacie Amerson is pregnant with their 3 child and has just found out she has placenta previa. Please remember her, Jeremy and their 2 boys as they prepare for the newest addition. Candice and Robby Caviness are excited about their 1st pregnancy...with TWINS! Please remember them as they prepare for a life change!!

Jenn's friends were involved in a car accident where they ran into a house. The female driver was killed (Wright family) and Kyle Paris (the passenger) is in UAB with head trauma. He has no recollection of what happened or even why he is in the hospital. Please remember the Wright family, Kyle and also the family of the house they hit. Kyle will have a lot to go through as his memory does begin to come back and the Wright family has sorrow as they have lost a loved one.

2 former students of Jenn's hit a teacher (former co-worker of Jenn's) who was 7 months pregnant. She and the baby were killed. Please remember in prayer this lady's family. The 2 students have been arrested. They too need our prayers as well as their families.

Joanna's friend Dan fell and was hurt pretty badly. Please pray for a speedy recovery and that he can remain comfortable during the healing process.

Crystal Hatcher's grandmother Caroline Horton was scheduled for quadruple bypass surgery this week. Please pray for her, the physicians and other medical team members she will encounter and for the family who will be caring for her as she recovers. Please pray that she will heal quickly.

Wendy Troglen is having the twins today at East. Please pray for a quick and safe delivery and recovery.

Mimi Robinson is having a heart procedure this week.

Students-those exposed to and suffering from the flu (teachers and staff as well)

From our lesson this week, go back and read Romans 7:14-the end of the chapter. I challenge you, as Laura Beth did, not to be a slave to the sin that entangles us. Set yourself apart. Know that you can only do it through the grace of God. Give Him control of your thoughts and actions. Let Him be your guiding force!

Have a beautiful week! See you Sunday!

New Prayer Request

I just got a phone call from Laura Beth. Her father and grandfather were on the way to Jackson Hospital for her grandfather's heart surgery and were rear ended by someone who left the scene. Her father is in the ER with a neck injury. Her grandfather seemed to be ok, just shaken up. Charles and Laura Beth are on their way to the hospital. LB will be with her dad in the ER and Charles is going to sit with her mom in surgery waiting. As I know more, I will update. Please pray for the Ingram/Sylvests this morning.

Have a great day!!

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Staley Ingram- Laura Beth's grandfather who will be undergoing heart surgery. The decision to have or not to have this surgery has been difficult to make. Mr. Ingram is in his 90's so undergoing anesthesia is always questionable. Fortunately, he has been is good health until these episodes lately. Please pray for the physicians, Mr. Ingram and his family. Surgery is scheduled for this week.

Peggy Blackburn's 27 year old son passed away. They went to wake him over the weekend and he was dead. Please pray for this family as they try to find answers and as they lay to rest their loved one. Please pray for comfort and peace that can only be found through Jesus.

Sue LeVert- Heather's grandmother. Sue is scheduled for part of her colon to be removed in August but is experiencing some trouble associated with her colon now. Please pray that the problems will be resolved and that she will feel better soon.

The Talleys will be leaving Saturday for a beach vacation. Please pray for traveling grace and safety. We will be with the whole family, so please pray that we don't get on one another's nerves!! :)

The Sylvests also have some traveling coming up soon. Please pray for their safety as well.

PRAISES:
The Connors are HOME!!!! Please remember to pray that Abbie will continue to pick up weight, will adjust well to being at home, that Bobby and Tonya can get some rest and that Drew will adjust well to his role as Big Brother.

Keep Up the Prayers for Abbie!

Tonya's Update....
Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Abbie had another good day today! We spoke to Dr. Whittington this morning& he was very pleased with her progress. Her platelet count was at theirhighest today at 119. He wanted to transition her from the isolation box toan open crib & they were able to do that at lunchtime because she had beenmaintaining good body temperature. He said that if she continued tomaintain her body temperature, kept her platelet count up, ate well & gainedweight that she could probably be home by weekend. So far today she haskept all of her feedings down. Dr. Whittington did say that her feedingshad been better since starting her back on the bottle this last time & thathe was not totally sure if it did it on its own or if the azithromycin madethat much of a difference. But since the medicine won’t hurt her, he isleaving her on it for a little while longer. Abbie did actually lose moreweight again today & now weighs 4 pounds 4.8 ounces.

From Charles....

Hey Guys,

I was looking ahead to our next month’s topic and want to encourage you to prepare for class.

We will be “Experiencing God Triune-ly.” That is right, a month long study on the Trinity. We thought 1 John 5:16 was difficult (and I am still looking at it) but the Trinity is a great challenge. One that we can understand in part but the concept of three people working together in perfect will and harmony is foreign to us to say the least. With God, all things are possible.

Have a great week and come prepared to discuss. We also need to try to plan a canoeing/tubing trip that seems to be of interest.

Blessings,
Charles

Sunday June 28, 2009

We had a great Bridge Builder time together with the Pathfinders class. There were a lot of prayer requests mentioned and Charles had a praise of thanksgiving for Jenn's breakfast casserole!! :)

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Abbie Connor- she is doing better, see previous post for Monday's update. Please continue to remember Bobby and Tonya as they are traveling to see her everyday and having to spend a lot of time waiting and watching. Tonya's body is still trying to recover from the section and needs some rest. Remember to pray for Drew and his understanding of the situation with Abbie.

Tria Greene- Leigh's friend had cancer surgery yesterday in Birmingham. Please pray for a good outcome and quick recovery.

Jim Law and family- Jim will be leaving for Afghanistan or Iraq. Please pray for safe travel for him and that his family will cope well while he is away. Please pray specifically for peace, comfort and safety.

Nicole Hyatt- student who has staff infection in her eye. As of Sunday was hospitalized. Please pray for healing.

Amy Howard had a young child to drown. Please pray for peace for this mom and she tries to put together the pieces of her life without her baby. This will be a very difficult time for her and the rest of their family.

Dusty Moles' family. Dusty was run over by a train and was killed. Please remember this family as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

Craig Elliott has to transition back to one of his old doctors. Please pray that problems will be resolved.

Gary Ray- an old student of Obed's who is having some financial trouble for school. He has been dealt a tough hand, but has fought his way to success. He has been given a partial scholarship, however still needs to find about $25,000 for schooling fees. Please pray for an intervention with these financial troubles. Please pray that he will feel God's peace and know there is hope and that God is in control.

Ingram family- Laura Beth's grandfather will be having heart surgery and at his age, this is risky. Please pray for the physicians caring for him and the family who will be caring for him post-surgery. Also, Laura Beth's father will be transitioning with his job where he will staying in Birmingham most of the time. Please remember to pray for Laura Beth's mom since she will be home alone most of the time. I only know them as Babbie and Papa, so there you go!

Abbie Grace Connor Update

I have been trying to get an email system set up for keeping everyoneupdated on Abbie Grace Connor. I think I have finally gotten it started.Today's email is a little longer than planned but gives an update on Abbiesince her birth. After this email they will be much shorter with only thatday's update. We appreciate all the calls and prayers we have received. Wejust ask that everyone continue to pray for Abbie & for us. We have notbeen to the hospital today yet but are getting ready to go that direction. She has had an Upper GI ordered for this morning so she wouldn't be in theNICU for us to see. She did have a good night her nurse said other than thespitting up. I will send out another update later tonight or in the morningwith today's results. Thanks again for all the prayers & calls! Tonya

Abbie Grace ConnorS
aturday, June 20, 2009
I was admitted into the Labor & Delivery unit at Baptist East a little after6:00 pm. After being checked & placed on the monitor it was determined Iwas 3 cm but my contractions were causing Abbie’s heart rates to drop offthe monitor. She was in distress. The decision to perform an emergencyc-section by Dr. Newman was made & Abbie Grace Connor was born at 8:24 pm.She was 4 pounds 4 ounces & was 18 ½ “ long. For some reason my placentahad gotten “old” at some point & was no longer providing Abbie with thenutrients she had needed. Abbie was brought to my room a little beforemidnight & we were able to spend some time with her. Little did we know atthis point things were about to change.

Sunday, June 21, 2009
At 12:45 am the nurse came to recheck her blood sugar level before herfeeding because it had been low at birth. Her blood sugar now was less than24 & she was taken to the nursery to be placed on an IV. Throughout the dayon Sunday we battled several things. Her blood sugar levels kept going up &down which meant she had to remain on the IV’s & receive sugar water. Herrespirations kept going to high which then meant she had to be fed through afeeding tube in her nose instead of by bottle. When her respirations werelow enough she could receive feedings by bottle, but then she battledprojectile spit up. We also learned by talking to Dr. Glover (pediatricianon rotation) that morning that she had a sacral dimple located on her lowerback & had to find out if it was opened or closed. If it was opened it wasvery serious, but if it was closed we would be okay. He felt as though itwas closed because they had not seen any spinal fluid leaking from it butuntil her other vitals were stabilized we would not know for sure. Shewould probably have to go through radiology to find out for sure. Dr.Glover also told us to be very thankful she had been born on Saturdaybecause she was on the verge of death & would not have made it much longer. He also informed us that Abbie would probably remain in the hospital untilweekend to get everything straightened out. By Sunday night, Abbie weighed4 pounds 4.9 ounces.

Monday, June 22, 2009
Abbie remained in the nursery again today. Her blood sugar still went up &down. The nurse was able during the night to switch her to a soy-basedformula & the spitting up was much better. Because of this Dr. Morrison(pediatrician on rotation) decided to cancel her Upper GI that was scheduledfor this morning. Her bilirubin or jaundice count was high by the evening &she was placed in the light box. Her weight at the end of the night was 4pounds 2.5 ounces. The neonatologist was called in during the night for aconsultation & ordered several lab works to be done at 8:00 the nextmorning.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Dr. Trumbull (our actual pediatrician & the one on rotation) met with us &gave us the news that Abbie would be moving to the NICU. Her lab work wasbeginning to come in & her platelet count was way too low. A normal countwas close to 150 & hers was 29. They had to determine what could be causingthis problem. They were starting her on antibiotics. The blood sugar wasalso still an issue. He felt that by moving her over she could be moreclosely monitored & that they would be able to do much more for her. So wemoved from the well baby nursery we had been in to the NICU & our stay hadnow been extended to about Tuesday. Our new doctor in charge would be Dr.Woodall. Once in the NICU Abbie received a platelet transfusion. The lowplatelet count he believed was caused by either an infection of some kind orpossibly by my antibodies. Blood work from me was ordered to helpdetermine the cause. Abbie’s jaundice count was now a 12 so she wouldremain on the lights. A central IV line was also added in Abbie’s foot. Westill are not able to really hold her because of the IV’s & having to remainon the light.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Things begin to look better today. Abbie’s platelet counts did go up & downbut always remained in the acceptable range. This causes Dr. Woodall tobelieve the problem is going to be my antibodies rather than an infection. Her respirations have been doing well. Through the IV they have been ableto regulate her blood sugar & she will begin her bottle feedings back thisafternoon. She had an MRI & a stomach ultrasound ordered & everything cameback good on this. The sacral dimple appeared to be closed but Dr. Woodallinformed us that we would later see a neurosurgeon in Birmingham to decideif surgery would be needed or not. Abbie’s feeding tube in her nose & theIV in her hand were both removed. By the end of the night Abbie’s weight was4 pounds 2 ounces.

Thursday, June 25, 2009
Today was another good day. Abbie’s jaundice count has come down to 6.5 so1 light has been removed. She was moved into an isolation box that isquieter, more comfortable, and means we are able to get her out & hold herat feeding times. I got to change a diaper for my first time today. Herblood sugar continued to stay regulated so her last IV came out. She ishaving the spitting up problem again with her feedings & so they are tryinga lactose free formula. If the spitting up continues they will order theUpper GI to be done. The platelet count remained good today. Dr. Woodallinformed us that after talking to the neurosurgeon in Birmingham that wewill not be seeing him about the dimple since it appears to be closed. Theydo not surgically repair them any more like they used to. We also got toget her out of the isolation box for a little over an hour when we fed her.She was so alert & it felt so reassuring. By the end of the night sheweighed 4 pounds 5 ounces.

Update on Jenn's Grandfather

Got an update from Jenn- her grandfather came through surgery well. They were only able to do 3 bypasses instead of the 5 that they felt was needed. He is in ICU at this point and they do not know much more at this time. Please remember him, the family and medical staff who are caring for him. I'll keep you posted!!

New Prayer Request

I received an email from Jenn Ellis last night (sorry it is just now being posted, did not get it till this morning), her grandfather Ernest Bittle had emergency open heart surgery last night. When I have an update, I will send it out. Please be in prayer that his recovery goes well and that he is up and about soon. Also remember the family members who will be caring for him during this time! We hope he is better soon, Jenn!

Abby Grace Update!

Just spoke with Bobby and got some news on Abby Grace. She weighed 4lbs 4 ozs and was 18 1/2 long at birth. She has been moved to the NICU at Baptist East. She was/is having trouble maintaining her blood sugar. It continues to drop. She has an IV and is receiving platelets because that count too is low. The Dr.'s would like for her level to be in the 50's and hers has dropped to 29 (was in the 30's). She is also on antibiotics in case there is an infection that is causing the platelet level to drop. The Dr.'s can not find an infection, but are treating as if there is one. They have told Tonya and Bobby that she will be in the NICU for at least 7 days.

Bobby expressed that they are tired and confused. The Dr.'s don't have a lot they can tell them. He said they are just shaking their heads saying we don't know. I can't imagine how scared they must be. When asked if there is anything we can do, he said "Just PRAY!"

Please, please remember baby Abby Grace, Tonya, Bobby and Drew. Remember the physician's when you pray but know the Great Physician is already healing her body according to His will. Please pray for answers and comfort.

Father's Day- June 21, 2009

Happy Father's Day! What a treat it was to be in the house of the Lord on such a special day for many! For those who this was their first Father's Day, we hope it was a great day for you. Take time to thank Jesus for the precious gift of children! Some have lost their dads, but take comfort in knowing you will see them again one day. Memories are special gifts that God has granted us. Make many with your children!
We heard a great message from my parent's pastor where he encouraged all fathers to let their children see and hear them pray. He also asked that the father's let their children know where they would spend eternity so that if they did not wake in the morning, their children would not have to question where they were spending eternity. Be a living testimony of God's goodness before your children. Be the spiritual leader that God has called you to be!

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Tonya Connor had baby Abby Grace. She entered the world a little small. I have tried to call today and get an update, but no one answered. I will try again later. Please pray that all is well with Abby. Pray that Tonya and Bobby get some rest and are able to adjust well to another little one being in the house. Also remember Drew as he learns to handle his new role as "The Big Brother!"

The Ellis' neighbor- he passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. Please remember this family as they cope with their loss. Let's join together and pray that they will seek and find comfort through Jesus.

The family of the man who lost his life Sunday in the Coosa- Jenn Ellis mentioned this family on facebook. Please pray for comfort for this family as well. Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when it occurs due to traumatic accidents.

Mother's Day 2009

What a great Mother's Day the Lord blessed us with! For some of us, it was our very first with our little ones and what sweet memories we made. For others, they are seasoned pros but I am sure it was just as special as the first! For a few, it may have been a sad day of remembering those who have gone to be with the Lord. Whatever the case, we can praise the Lord for remembered memories of old or new ones made this past Sunday! For those who were out, please know you were missed and we hope you will be with us this Sunday. Thanks Charles for a great lesson this week. I hope you all are enjoying "studying" your mate as much as I am. I thought I knew a lot about James, but am learning there are still questions that need to be asked. I hope that you "talkers" in the relationship have learned to be quiet and listen a little this week and you "quiet" ones have learned to open up and share a little more!!!

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Also, remember Bobby (and Tonya) as he is facing false accusations. PLEASE pray that their stresses can be relieved and that they will be able to fully place this situation in the Lord's hands.

May 3, 2009

I don't know about you all, but I am finding myself more and more engrossed in the Love Dare! It has become a challenge each day to find new ways to express my love and devotion to James. I am not only learning more about him, but also about myself. I think this study can truly be a blessing in our marriages if we earnestly seek Him through it. Enjoy diving in to this week's lesson! There were several out this week, we hope to see Sunday. Remember, we are in our new classroom! Thanks Laura Beth for breakfast!

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Meadowbrook subdivision shooting- Please be in prayer for the family(s) who lost loved ones, for those recovering and for the shooter. How sad it must feel to think that the only way to resolve a disagreement is through violence that results with death. If this man does not know the Lord, please pray for salvation.

The Sylvest family- Charles and Laura Beth have started renovations on the house. Please remember them as they are in the midst of all the construction. Please pray that the weather will cooperate and that they will be able to move things along with no snags. Laura Beth is not feeling well today, please pray that she will be back to herself soon. They also returned home last night to discover the air is not working. Since the temperature is warmer, this may cause some discomfort. Please pray they are able to stay cool and will be able to fix the air conditioner soon.

Please remember Laura Beth's grandfather, Mr. Ingram. Since his strokes and breaking his foot, he is now "giving up" and refusing to eat. Please be in prayer as his family takes care of him. Also, pray that he will once again receive his will to carry on. He has lived a long life and has been healthy until the last several months. Please be in prayer for his physical but more importantly his emotional health.

The Connor's- Bobby has been charged with false accusations. Please pray that the truth be revealed and that he will be cleared. They will be attending court for this matter just 2 weeks before the birth of "sweet baby girl." Pray that Tonya will be able to handle the stress that comes along with such accusations. Please remember to lift them up as they prepare for the new arrival.

PRAISES:
The Forbus family has found a home! Please be in prayer that if this is the house the Lord would have them own, that things will move along quickly and that all will fall into place.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Be thinking about our next social. We are thinking about a cook-out but incorporating a "Baby Blessings" for the Connors!

Please be in prayer about how you can be a leader in our class. There are opportunities for you to serve. Be in prayer and seek for the Lord's will. He wants to use you! Remember, He does not call the equipped, He equips the called!! He will lead you where He can not use you!

As always, LOVE on your spouse this week! Let them know how special they are to you!!

Sunday April 26, 2009

Thank you Charles for a great session with the Love Dare this week. Please remember to dive into your books, think about, pray over and write your thoughts as you study for this coming Sunday. For those of you who do not already have the journal, try to purchase one as a resource to go along with the sessions. There is great information in the appendix section of the journal that is a wonderful resource.

PRAYER CONCERNS:
Ella- feeling under the weather, running fever. Thank goodness she is feeling better and back to her old self again.

The Sylvest family- had great outcomes at court, Mr. Harris was arrested on all accounts however he will probably appeal the court's decision. Pray that resolution will occur and that if he does not already know the Lord, that through this, he will come to know His saving grace. Also, remember the Sylvest's as they move forward with re-construction of their home. Pray for comfort and peace as they try to make anew with their home.

The passenger with Demetrius Harris- he suffered some memory loss and has medical expenses that have occurred since the accident. Pray that he too will find peace through all of this.

What a wonderful day of worship!

What a great Resurrection Easter morning we had last week. The message was wonderful, the choir sounded beautiful and from what I understand, the breakfast was great (we were home looking into Easter baskets and playing with our new goodies!)! Thank you again to the Ellis family for opening their home for a great time of fellowship and food with friends!
This Sunday was no exception. The worship message was encouraging. I pray that we will all be the "Keynote Speaker" that the Lord would be proud of. Remember, no matter where you are or who you are with, we all need to be shining examples of Christ's love. We did a recap of the first lesson of the Love Dare. I pray that we are all reading ahead and praying for our marriages and for one another. Take time to sink into the goodness God has in store for each of us.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
We have a new room! We will be moving to room 230 this coming Sunday. Our class is growing! Praise the Lord! Continue to invite new people to join us each week!
Be thinking and praying about class roles. You may feel the Lord leading you to serve as the outreach, in reach or social coordinator. Pray and ask the Lord where He can use you and your talents. See Charles for details!
The Love Dare Journal is a great resource/tool to add to our class book. You can find these at Wal-Mart of Lifeway.
Don't forget to bring wedding day pictures. You may want to make copies of your pictures as they will hang on the wall of our classroom. Color copier is available in the church office.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
Bethany, Todd and the boys- pray that the Lord's will be revealed for their lives, for their family and marriage. Now, more than ever is prayer needed for guidance, peace and comfort.
Bobby and Tonya are preparing for their sweet baby girl. Pray that they will be able to get the things done that need to be done before her arrival. Also remember the "Big Brother" that he will be prepared and ready for the changes that will occur in his home.
Children who participated in Camp Celebration. Several of these children have lost both parents and have also experienced other means of grief. Please pray as they try to move forward. They need peace and reassurance that life can be ok. For those who do not know the Lord, pray that positive influences will be placed in their lives who can lead them to His saving grace!
The Sylvest family will be face-to-face this week with the man who crushed into their home back in December. Please pray that they will be able to control emotions as this will be the first time they have seen him face-to-face. Pray that the Lord will convict him and he will changes his ways, if he has not already.
Adullum House. Pray that the Lord will reveal the direction He would have us to go with a possible mission project for this children's home.
PRAISE:
Friend of Obed and Jenn found out that he is finally getting his boy...even though they have thought throughout the entire pregnancy it was a girl! Praise for answered prayers!!
Y'all have a great week! Hope to see you Sunday!!

Wishing you a happy day!

I was thinking about you guys today and wanted to say a quick prayer for you...

Dear Lord,
Thank you for this day and for the many blessings you have provided for us, even though we are so undeserving. I come to you this afternoon lifting up our Bridge Builder Class. I pray that wherever they may be at this very moment that you will lift their spirits and that they feel you around them. I pray for their safety as they travel here and there. I thank you Lord for the friendships that are building within this clas and for the leadership from Charles. I pray that you would bless us, our marriages and homes. Thank you again for all you do for us. In Jesus' name I pray...AMEN!

Have a blessed day! See you Sunday!
